JUNE 2008 A busy month! As well as appearing in Oklahoma! in the evenings, Steph is rehearsing during the daytime for a production of The Sound of Music with seasoned West End star Sally Ann Triplett at the Larnaca Festival, Cyprus at the beginning of July. Oklahoma! Reviews: “Karl Clarkson has the big build and bigger voice ... for the male lead of Curly, while Stephanie Nielson as Laurey, his reluctant girlfriend, sings equally well.” (The Stage) “Great chemistry between romantic leads Karl Clarkson and Stephanie Nielson as Curly and Laurey pays off for the beautiful People Will Say We're In Love” (newsshopper.co.uk)
MAY 2008 Following straight on from the end of the run of The Pajama Game, Stephanie will start rehearsals in mid May for OKLAHOMA!, in which she will play the female romantic lead role of Laurey. This show will run at the Broadway Studio Theatre, Catford, from Weds 4th until Sun 29th June 2008.
APRIL 2008 Opening night at the Union and Stephanie finds herself thrown in at the deep end. The female lead who plays the part of BABE WILLIAMS is ill and Steph is asked to step in. She was never the understudy for this part and doesn’t know the script so she goes on with the book which she cleverly uses as if it were a prop. Fast forward to the second night and following a night of script-learning which went on until the small hours, Steph produces a polished, word-perfect performance. Night three (Friday) was Press Night and Stephanie picks up some remarkable reviews which can be read at: London SE1 and thisislondon.co.uk Some other quotes: “Stephanie Nielson, standing in for the indisposed Kate Nelson, gave the character of Babe Williams dramatic and musical weight as well as literal height” (The Stage) “Stephanie Nielson as Babe conveys well the strong female union leader with a soft-centre for her boss” (www.classicalsource.com) “Special mention must be made of Stephanie Nielson who bravely walked on as understudy when Kate Nelson was taken ill at the last minute. What a polished performance she gave, so bravo to her.” (Southwark News) “There are several potential Nancys in The Pajama Game, not least the splendidly willowy Stephanie Nielson ” (What’s on Stage)
MARCH 2008 Steph is rehearsing for the part of BRENDA in The Pajama Game at the Union Theatre, London, performances running from April 16th until May 17th.
